What exactly is going to happen in counseling?

Our counseling sessions vary by counselor, but the basic description of what we do is “talk therapy.” Meaning the counseling process includes you (the client) talking with one of us (the counselor). There is a difference however between a regular session and the initial intake.

What happens during the initial intake?

The most important part of counseling is not the technique used, but the relationship between counselor and client. The goal of the intake is for us as counselors to learn more about your needs in counseling and whether we are a good fit for providing those services.

During the intake your counselor will ask you to share why you are coming to counseling, identify potential goals, and obtain background information relative to your treatment.

The intake is also your opportunity to decide if you feel we are a good fit for you. Your counselor will take time to explain how they approach the counseling process and what you can expect the regular sessions to feel like. We encourage you to take the time to ask us any questions you may have in order to help you in this decision.

What should I bring to the intake?

Before your intake you will have access to our client portal. All necessary documents will be available there. If there is any additional information needed your individual counselor will let you know.

Are you licensed?

Currently, both Dr. Mickey Becker and Michael Coe are registered with the State of Oregon as Licensed Professional Counselors.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, we do not provide medication management services. If you believe you need medication management services please contact your primary medical provider.
